The other day I mentioned there is always a moment, you could call it a veritable epiphany, an obvious tipping point, when the creative work you are doing is crystallising into something with a beginning, a middle, and an end; something that very clearly went from being a whole lot of nothing to a whole lot of something.
It’s a week or so since then and today the edits to the video were minor. Sure, I am only talking of animation here, as sound and scoring are not my department, but insofar as I am concerned, what will occur the other side will be extensive but creatively minor.
I call it minor because the final mastering and cut, the final let me add a twinkling star here always feels like decorating a room with your pictures and scented candles after a team of interior designers has done everything that truly mattered over a period of three months. You’re tinkering at the edges once your animation and sound editing are finished.
I have now designed [and sent to print] the letterhead I am going to use in this marketing campaign. It may seem odd and counter-intuitive to talk of letters in the digital age but, actually, it really is not. As nobody sends hard copies any longer, people notice it when they receive one, especially so publishers who went from include SAE for your MSS return, to all submissions to this email address and expect not to hear before eight weeks have elapsed [if ever]. I am now getting excited not just for myself but also my voice actor and my composer. There is always a fleeting moment before your creative output is released into the world when it is still yours and close to your heart and then, it no longer is.
