There comes a moment, and sometimes it actually is a fleeting sensation, whereby I know my video has tipped over into the land of Oz. Sure, everything I do is in technicolour but the tipping point occurs when I add a first audio track that has been worked on and not only do I get the voiceover, as is the case with what I am making now, but at least part of the sound effects.
Of course I always start from a voiceover, sometimes a demo, but nothing, and I repeat nothing at all, brings a video to life as much as sound. And today was that day; in the middle of the afternoon, as I timed the entry and exit of some assets and re-watched the draft scene I felt that wave of realisation… this will be so good. That never happens before sound and score drop, in fact, I tend to feel slightly in the creative dumps as I wade through the first draft, which can take a remarkably long time. I’ve been at this video for just short of three weeks solid and only today did I feel that I was getting somewhere.
As they say, it takes a village. And an eternity.
